Rodney Crowell – Live Set Woodsongs

Rodney Crowell’s has being one of the artists of the decade for me, in that time he’s released four critically acclaimed albums each on a different label - The Houston Kid (February 2001), Fate’s Right Hand (July 2003), The Outsider (August 2005) and Sex and Gasoline (Sept 2008), my favourite of the four albums is The Outsider, love the title track, Dancing Circles Around the Sun and Don’t Get Me Started. During a appearance on Woodsongs back in 2005 Crowell treated the audience to two tracks each from, Fate’s Right Hand and The Outsider, and three from The Houston Kid including the re-working of Johnny Cash’s I Walk the Line, throw in Making Memories of Us and you have a great set of songs, Crowell was brilliantly supported by Will Kimbrough and Jedd Hughes whose solo contributions I posted recently, the full show is well worth watching for Crowell’s anecdotes. Will Kimbrough – Piece of Work

As a companion post to the Jedd Hughes from earlier this week, thought I’d post Will Kimbrough’s contibution to the Rodney Crowell Woodsongs set, Piece of Work.

AMA Award winning Multi-instrumentalist and producer Will is a man in demand, as well as working with Rodney Crowell, Todd Snider, Kate Campbell, Matthew Ryan, Kim Richey and Josh Rouse ,Will’s production credits include the excellent 2009 album from Angela Easterling Black Top Road,  as well as his collaboration in Daddy with long time friend Tommy Womack.

Will has also released four album’s and an EP on his own, the song performed on Woodsongs appeared on his 2002 album Home Away (buy) as well as been covered by Jimmy Buffet on his License to Chill album. According to Will’s website he’s got an album in the works, entitled Wings it’s due to for release February, you can keep up to date here and listen to . . . → Read More: Will Kimbrough – Piece of Work

Jedd Hughes – S/T EP

I first came across Jedd Hughes name earlier this year when blogging about Guy Clark’s latest album Somedays the Song Writes You, I stumbled across the fellow again watching a Woodsong performance featuring Rodney Crowell, who was joined by Jedd (and Will Kimbrough) for the set, Rodney performed songs from his Houston Kid, Fate’s Right Hand and The Outsider albums for the main part of the show and then Jedd and Will got to perform a song of their own.

Suitably impressed with the song and performance and picked up Jedd’s latest EP from eMusic earlier this week. You can here Rodney Crowell influence rubbing of in the opening track from the EP I Want Your #35 excellent stuff and loads of promise for the future. Jedd Hughes – Genevieve (Woodsongs Live)

Those Darlins – Better late than never

I’m late to the hype party with this, but having read all the positive press and blogger articles about Those Darlins and listened to a couple of mp3′s I decided to get a copy of the self-titled album myself, it really is a great set of upbeat tunes with an alt-country garage rock thing going on , the album breezes along – start to finish in around 35 foot-tapping minutes brightening your outlook as it goes.

The band are Kelley (bass), Jessi (guitar) Nikki (ukulele) & Linwood Regensburg (drums) they appeared on Woodsongs recently and links to the tracks from that performance are below along with the promo-track from the album.

You can download / watch / listen to the whole show over at the Woodsongs archive
