Emanuel started life when Tim Burgess sent a copy of a new Charlatans’ song, Emilie, over to Laura Cantrell. Tim felt the song was a message reaching out to someone, and he asked Laura if she would consider writing a reply, a message back. Laura recruited Son Volt’s Mark Spencer on pedal steel and Mary Lee Kortes to and they recorded Emanuel. The other half of the story started by The Charlatans.
