Star Anna – The Sky is Falling

Star Anna - The Sky is Falling
Star Anna’s album Go To Hell was one of my favourites from 2013 but what I didn’t know, until now, was that prior to this album she had recorded The Sky Is Falling before deciding to shelve it and work on what was to become Go To Hell, well now the album has being set free as a digital-only release and you can get your hands on a copy now at iTunes and I recommend you do as it’s another great set of songs from the Seattle based singer-songwriter, who’s definitely hit upon a rich vein of creativity.

The Sky Is Falling is an album about getting sober,” comments Star Anna.  “It’s about letting go and moving forward.  It’s not a Laughing Dogs record and it’s not quite a solo record either.  Though the Laughing Dogs do appear on a few songs, Justin Davis on all of the songs, the album also includes some outside help from the likes of Will Moore, Ty Bailie, Mark Pickerel, Barb Hunter, and Johnny Sangster (who also helped produce the record). “Though these songs were recorded before Go To Hell, the album seemed too tender and self-reflective to come out on the heels of my band breaking up.  It didn’t feel like it would make the same heavy impact as a solo album, as Go To Hell would.  Now that the dust has settled from the road bumps of the last few years, I feel ready to put The Sky Is Falling out into the world.”

Beat Surrender : Best of 2013

It’s that time of year again to try and break down this years favourites into some kind of order, truth be told the #1 choice was the easiest I’ve had to make in recent years, separating #2 through #5 was a little more difficult – they are all great albums, stylistically very different but all have outstanding songs, from #6 onwards the degree of separation reduces and to be honest if I sat down with the final list next week the order could shift significantly, in the tradition of never doing it exactly the same way year-on-year this time around I’ve gone for a more straight forward chart and the number 33 seemed an appropriate choice given the top ten all found their way into my collection on vinyl (no doubt this influenced the final choices). Having already seen a number of fellow bloggers best of’s it evident there are some big name Americana acts missing from the Beat Surrender run down, as ever too much music and not enough time.
