Ryan Bingham’s Rugged Country

The guy who gargles whiskey and grit is making headlines with his song The Weary Kind that features in the film Crazy Heart, never been much on soundtracks but this one looks like it may force me to make an exception given the tracklisting.

Here’s a treat for you three live cuts from Mr Bingham from his last appearance on NPR,
including Southside of Heaven from his album Mescalito – my favourite tune from his
repertoire plus a great rendition of Hard Times from the same album and a track from
last years album Roadhouse Sun.

Ryan Bingham – WXPN

Ryan Bingham’s last album Mescalito was critically acclaimed and rightly so, a heady mix of country, rock, mariachi, slide, mandolin and harmonica, mash it up with Ryan’s cracked and smokey vocal (remind me how old he is) and a great production job by the Black Crowes Marc Ford that squeezed the very best out of the songs, if you don’t have this one, your missing a treat.

My favourite track from the album was “Southside of Heaven” and there’s a great rendition included here along with the excellent “Hard Times” and “Tell My Mother I Miss Her So” a track that will appear on Ryan’s new album “Roadhouse Sun” which is set for release June 2nd and is on my wanted list, details here
