New video for track two from the bands album Battles an album that I backed on Pledge and thoroughly recommend.
After a successful Pledge campaign Annie Dressner is gearing up for the formal release of her EP East Twenties early next month with a launch show on April 9th at The Slaughtered Lamb, now UK based the title of Annie’s EP is taken from her New York home neighbourhood of East Twenties , as well as singer-songwriter duties on the the quartet of tracks Annie also plays guitar, melodica and percussion, support on the recording is provided by Paul Goodwin who shares production credits with Annie as well as contributing on keys, bass and mandolin, further instrumental embellishment is provided by The Red Clay Halo’s Jo Silverston on cello.
The EP presents as an cathartic affair from it’s title, through to the artwork Clown Standing On One Hand (Annie Dressner, age 2) via the confessional underpinning of the songs, opening track ‘Heartbreaker’ is for me the EP’s stand-out track and one of my favourite songs I’ve heard in 2013 – the instrumentation and vocal melding into a lovely piece of melancholic reminiscing which could have easily being lifted from Caitlin Rose’s album The Stand-In.
Track two features the cello playing of the aforementioned Jo Silverston and the arrangement beautifully frames the tracks mournful mood, the cello again plays it’s mood-creating part on the coming of age track Flame, the instrumentation is pared back for the final track guitar and organ providing the back drop for the lament Lost in a Car on which Annie is joined by Dan Wilde who provides backing vocals. The four track offering that whets the appetite for more and will hopefully provide a springboard to greater recognition of Annie Dressner’s talent.
Ellen & The Escapades have made the title track from their upcoming release All The Crooked Scenes available to stream on Soundcloud along with This Ace I’ve Burned, the formal album release (digital is already in the hands of those who Pledged) is April 16th and the title track is released as a digital single and on good old-fashioned vinyl 7″ on April 2nd.

I mentioned this in post on Beat Surrender a few weeks back, just in case you missed and because it’s getting near I’m hoping I can persuade a few more folks to put a few dollars in the pot and support this project, times are tough in rock n roll and Kickstarter, Pledge and IndieGoGo are offering artists a great opportunity to get their music out there, I’ve made personal pledge to put aside some of my music “budget” each month to back a project, this is one of them.
