Following the release of their eponymous debut EP that featured on Beat Surrender last October and turned out to be one of my personal favourites of 2016 , Curse of Lono release their debut long player, Severed, today on Submarine Cat Records and it’s available in all formats including vinyl of course.
I’m a big fan of frontman Felix Bechtolsheimer’s former band Hey Negrita and I think I own pretty well everything they recorded to CD & vinyl as well as a handful of promo recordings that were never formally released, so it won’t come as much of surprise to you when I recommend you get your hands on this album ASAP.
The album reflects a lot of aspects of the Hey Negrita material but with a greater breadth and depth of influences, the songs were written over a fourteen-year period which goes someway to explaining the musical vista and in the true rock ‘n’ roll tradition deals with, sexual jealousy, the death of loved ones and personal struggles with infidelity and addiction.
Up next my favourite pair of tracks on the album London Rain and Pick Up the Pieces – can’t recommend this one enough….
Seems like a good opportunity to plug the excellent rock-doc that Felix Bechtolsheimer produced, if you’re not familiar We Dreamed America is worth getting your hands on, it was released back in 2008 but still available at Amazon.
Finally if you’re not familiar it’s never too late to discover your new old favourite band.
