Need a new Hey Negrita album, suffering withdrawal symptoms, a youtube and track from the their fantastic album The Buzz Above
Hey Negrita – Lust & Bones
A Youtube pick n mix this week…………………..
One of my favourite bands Hey Negrita release their new album “Burn the Whole Place Down” on the 5th of the month, have been looking forward to this album as it has some live “in the studio” versions of some of my favourite Hey Negrita tracks. The title track is the only “new” track on the album, you can get a listen to it below along with a live cut and a track not released on any of the bands previous three official studio releases.Check out the excellent review at Americana UK “A real live acoustic smoke out” and the zombie animations at the bands Myspace site Burn the Whole Place Down (from SXSW sampler)Room Service (Live At The Luminaire)Where Are You (from The Minnesota Method – FatFox Promo)

One of these years I will get the opportunity to travel to Austin for SXSW, for now I’ll have to console myself and get by with the reports, video and music that will be all over the web during the festival. The official SXSW music section has links to a whole load of sample download tracks, the selection in the link below are all tagged “alt-country”, I’ve selected a top twenty some you’ll know and others maybe not, but all worth a listen I feel, stand out track for me is the Hey Negrita tunes, really looking forward to their acoustic release……

Do you ever get a fixation for an artist and play them to death for days on end, I do often, currently over dosing on Hey Negrita.
I had a copy of We Dreamed America as a christmas pressie and got around to watching it last week, since then I’ve been listening to a few of the artists featured on the DVD but none more than Hey Negrita. Their Wiki entry describes them as English Country Blues, I’m not really one for genre tags, but the band is essentially English and the music has both a country and blues tinge, so I’ll let that one go, however you describe there music they are just a damn good band. Highly recommend all three of their albums, the first We Are Catfish that was released in 2005 is available from the indie label Fat Fox and at iTunes, . . . → Read More: We Dreamed America
