Cakehole Presley – In The Used To Be

frontcover
A year after the recording was completed and a year after the passing of the band’s co-leader Mark Humphries, who had written and performed (vocals, bass, synths) on many of the album’s tracks – alongside Chris Ridgeway (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica), Al McLean (electric guitar, backing vocals) and Alka Jones (drums, backing vocals) – Cakehole Presley have released In The Used To Be via Newsoundwales Records, the band were formed in 2008 with members having played with a multitude of bands from the Welsh music scene including The Howling Sleepers, Doofer and The Vinegar Flies.

In The Used To Be  serves up fifteen tracks of eclectic rock ‘n’ roll that immediately grab the listeners attention and hold it through to finish, though it wasn’t conceived as such the album comes over almost as a live ‘set-list’, opening with a plea to the audience Hope I’m Reaching Your Heart before finishing up (well almost, there’s a hidden track on the CD) and sending the crowd home with a sing-a-long anthem Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down.

Hope I’m Reaching Your Heart

Don’t Let The Bastards Grind You Down

Highly recommended.
