Continuing on the Gram theme here’s a fantastic one hour audio documentary hosted by the venerable Bob Harris who takes a look back at the enigma that is Gram Parsons, contributions from Polly Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Keith Richards, Phil Kaufman and some rare words of wisdom from the legend himself.
(Can’t recall how I got this so no acknowledgement)
Pete Molinari has a new album out of the 7th June A Train Bound for Glory hopefully he’ll pick up some thoroughly deserved wider recognition and sales from his recent TV début on Later – the new album follows on from his excellent 7 Track CD / 4 track 10″ Vinyl EP, Today Tomorrow and Forever plugged on the blog last year, just prior to it’s release Pete was in session with Bob Harris, talking country, Kerouac, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, Little Richard and recording in Nashville with the legendary Jordanaires who appeared on two tracks.
Really looking forward to Pete’s upcoming album and my appetite was further whetted after watching a performance of Streetcar Named Desire on Later earlier this month. If you like what hear check out Pete’s back catalogue at Damaged Goods.
Bob Harris recorded a short session with Charlie Robison earlier this year during the Americana awards in Nashville, the session aired on the 5th November – I was otherwise engaged that evening getting soaked to the skin whilst simultaneously enjoying hot dogs and beer – I caught up with the show on iPlayer after I’d dried out and was very pleased I did.
Robison performed two live session tracks and had a chat with Bob about the album, the divorce and Austin versus San Antoine, his album Beautiful Day has being one of the muscial highlights for me this year and he performed two acoustic tracks from the record during the session Down Again and the title track, before the session closed with one of my favourite tracks from the Beautiful Dayalbum Feeling Good.
For any overseas readers who may not have come across Bob Harris before, the man’s a real hero when it comes to getting alt-country and Americana to a wider audience in the UK, his long running shows on BBC Radio 2 have introduced me and many others to a whole host of new artists, particularly the Thursday night show Bob Harris Country, check out Whispering Bob at his website here.
