The Limiñanas – Shadow People (feat. Emmanuelle Seigner) from the bands EP ‘Istanbul Is Sleepy’ out today.
Featuring acclaimed French accress Emmanuelle Seigner, ‘Shadow People’ was recorded in The Limiñanas’ home studio in the South of France, and finished at The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe’s studio in Berlin.
Lionel from the band explains: “The shadow people are an American myth, they are described as furtive apparitions, comparable to ghosts observable from the corner of the eye. These “spirits” accompany throughout your all life, a sort of paranormal glue stuck to you… Emmanuelle came to visit us in the South of France, and we asked her to sing “Shadow People” with Renaud Picard, the singer from Hair and the Iotas. We recorded it in just a few minutes over an afternoon…”. Emmanuelle Seigner added: “A friend introduced me to The Limiñanas, I was in love with their Music. Three days before our first meeting, Lionel Limiñana called me and offered me to sing on one song off their new album. He sent me ‘Shadow People’. Then we recorded directly at their home, it was fast, easy and pretty natural”.
From the band’s forthcoming EP, Istanbul Is Sleepy, the French psych duo will make their London debut at OSLO on October the 5th (tickets), love this track track featuring the irrepressible Anton Newcombe.
Reflecting on the single and their collaboration with Newcombe, Lionel explained, “’Istanbul Is Sleepy’ is like the classic dream where you become the hero, the Captain Blood or Midnight Sultan(??). The one who rescues and seduces Maureen O’Hara or Ava Gardner. Anton is singing and playing guitar on the track. He was inspired, in particular, by The Cult during their ‘Rain’ period. Last year, Mojo magazine asked us to record a cover for a special Kinks tribute. We chose ‘Two Sisters’. Marie and I were thinking for the vocal part it would be great to approach Anton Newcombe, having opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre at Le Trianon in Paris. The work began like that. We had an album to record and we decided to finish it with him. During the Christmas week, we took our demos, flew to Berlin and recorded at Anton’s studio. Six days later we had a finished album”.
