Elizabeth Cook – The Real Deal

“In an era of fabricated fame, Elizabeth is the real deal”

The quote is courtesy of Rodney Crowell who was responsible for the production on Elizabeth’s 2007 release Balls, and it pretty well sums it up, Elizabeth’s bio like her vocal is pure country, here’s a set of songs from her performance on Woodsongs that showcases four tracks from the Balls album along with If I Could penned by her husband Tim Carroll (eMusic)

Elizabeth’s vocal is wonderful and gets me every time , never more so than in her rendition of The Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning, a perfect cover version?

Elizabeth is working on a new release that is scheduled for release later this year – in the meantime enjoy these.

Paul Masson – Paul Masson EP

Paul Masson’s debut self-titled EP is a real gem and worthy of greater attention, the EP features Paul on acoustic guitar and vocals with support from Tom Hnatow on pedal steel / banjo and Bethany Dinsick providing harmony vocals.

The six track EP is solid start to finish, all the songs are written and crafted by Masson whose vocal is a perfect match for the meandering lo-fi alt-country on display here, the twang provided by the pedal steel and banjo is blended beautifully with the minimal percussion to produce a thoroughly enjoyable song set, do yourself a favour and pick up a copy, the EP is available through iTunes and eMusic.

My favourite from the EP My Girl Baltimore, you can and should check out more at MySpace
