“That’s Entertainment” – It was 30 years ago today……

7th February 1981 – according to Wiki (that’s never wrong, right?)

The Jam’s finest hour, well that’s debatable and personal but no doubt it’s one of tracks that has best stood the test of time and stands as a testimony to Weller’s abilities to project the everyday and mundane into an indelible piece of music. One of all time favourite songs it remains a live favourite and always manages to raise an extra effort from the crowd – even getting the most stoic of fans of their arse and joining in. The single charted as an import and with Down in The Tube Station earned the band the distinction of the two best selling import singles in UK chart history.

My favourite version was the demo that appeared on Direction, Reaction, Creation (buy), here it is:

Paul Weller LG Arena 26th November 2010

Had a great Friday night at the LG Arena Birmingham in the company of my good lady and Paul Weller and the boys.

Tracks: Great set-list, perfect blend of the old songs and the new.

Local : Steve C was on fire on home turf (OCS dates for Feb)

Regret : Gigs are better when you down the front standing and swaying (sorry dear)

Gripe: Why oh why to some folks go and spend half the night up and down from their seats, if you’re there for the music don’t spend the . . . → Read More: Paul Weller LG Arena 26th November 2010

Paul Weller – Live KCRW

By the time you read this I, barring a last minute disaster, I will be on my way in the company of my better half to Birmingham to see Paul Weller at the LG Arena.

Thought it would be a good time to post this, if you’re watching thanks for the anonymous tip off and download link whoever you are, the full FLAC download including interview segments of this performance can be downloaded here along with the artwork - I’ve stripped out the tracks only and present them as 192 bit-rate mp3′s, if you hearing isn’t scarred by having the volume turned up to loud for too long get the FLAC files for quality.
