Kentucky natives The Watson Twins have a new album set for release on Vanguard Records next month, identical twins Chandra and Leigh Watson and are renowned for their sweet harmonies evident in this NPR performance from August 08′ that was broadcast in support of their second album Firesongs and featured three tracks from that release. The press release for the twin’s new album Talking to You Talking to Me quotes the sisters taking “a soulful turn a la Carole King, but with a pop edge reminiscent of Feist”, make of that what you will. The label have released a track from the album U-N-Me to tempt you. From the NPR session. How Am I To BeOld WaysJust Like HeavenBuy @ Amazon

Paul Weller – NPR 22 Dreams – Why Walk When You Can Run

Probably mentioned it once or twice before but one of my favourite Weller songs is Why Walk When You Can Run, I have a real personal affinity with the tracks sentiment and message and it’s my favourite song from the 22 Dreams album so I was pleased to hear it performed by Weller on his NPR appearance promoting the album back in September ’08. Aided and abetted by familar cohorts Steve Craddock (Guitar), Hannah Andrews (Vocals) and Andy Lewis (Bass / Cello), Weller performed three tracks from the album along with a familiar cover of Manfred’s Mann’s Pretty Flamingo Light Nights Why Walk When You Can Run All I Wanna Do (Is Be With You) Pretty Flamingo

Neko Case – Soulful Americana

I’ve been a fan of Ms Case after first hearing her debut album The Virginian released back in 1997, there’s a great article from No Depression here, not one to rest on her laurels she has in the period since released six further full lengths and an EP Canadian Amp featuring a cover version of Neil Young’s Dreaming Man, as well as collaborating with The New Pornographers on four albums and Canadian singer-songwriter Carolyn Mark and The Sadies amongst others. Neko’s style has changed and developed but through this the quality of the music has remained consistently high, if you were . . . → Read More: Neko Case – Soulful Americana

Kathleen Edwards – NPR June 08

Another of my favourite artists from the last decade is Canadian singer / songwriter Kathleen Edwards, her first full length Failer was released in 2003 and became an instant favourite of mine, it was followed by Back to Me in 2005 and Asking for Flowers in 2008 both of which featured in my favourite albums of the respective years. Prior to the release of Failer Kathleen released a six song EP entitled Building 55 that was limited to a 500 copy run and in-between Back to Me and Failer there was an interesting hybrid CD/DVD release Live from the Bowery Ballroom, the DVD side of the disc includes the videos of Six O’clock News and One More Song the Radio Won’t Like and the CD side to live cuts from Failer , National Steel and Hockey Skates, along with an AC/DC cover Money Talks, the unique disc is worth seeking out and finally for . . . → Read More: Kathleen Edwards – NPR June 08
