Calexico, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, The Barr Brothers and Sons Of Bill and a songwriting circle of Aiofe O’Donovan, Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz are just some of the acts been announced to play Kilkenny Roots Festival this year. The festival, now in its eighteenth year and held across a number of venues in the city between 1st – 4th May has always attracted the cream of the roots scene and this year is proving to be no exception. Also on the bill Ryan Boldt head honcho of Canada’s Deep Dark Woods, who will be playing a solo set, rising traditional country singer-songwriter Cale Tyson, country-folk pairing Kacy and Clayton, and a rare Irish date for the acclaimed US songwriter Eef Barzelay. Irish band I Draw Slow head up the homegrown acts, whilst US band Daddy Long Legs will close the festival on the Monday night with their unique brand of primitive rock n roll.
As ever there will be a number of free gigs around town all weekend as part of the Kilkenny Roots heritage trail.
