Hannah Aldridge – Razor Wire

Hannah Aldridge - 'Razor Wire' - cover (300dpi)

A quick look at the cover art hints of what to expect, and a run through the track-listing for Hannah Aldridge’s debut album Razor Wire offers another tantalising clue as it includes a cover of a Jason Isbell track – plus his band the 400 Unit (Derry DeBorja, Jimbo Hart, Chad Gamble and Sadler Vaden) feature on Hannah’s version of the cover-song Try.

The album certainly reflects those pointers and the 26 year old singer-songwriter has soaked up the sounds of both Nashville and Muscle Shoals inheriting her musical DNA from her father Walt – a songwriter, musician and producer who is a Alabama Music Hall of Famer and has racked up countless chart successes with songs recorded by Lou Reed, Reba McEntire, Travis Tritt, Ronnie Milsap, and Conway Twitty amongst others.

“Dark Americana,” is how Hannah describes her music and true to that the subject matter is mostly downbeat and distressed, songs of broken hearts, promises and dreams – the album channels the sounds of Lucinda, Lindi and Loretta combining country, rock, blues and a whole lot of that magical Nashville & Muscle Shoals sound.

The album was produced by Chris Mara and recorded at his analogue studio Welcome To 1979 in Nashville, alongside the cover there are nine original tracks penned by Hannah with co-credits, alongside the appearance of the 400 Unit in the studio Hannah was also joined by Andrew Sovine (electric & acoustic guitars/lap steel), Brad Pemberton (drums & percussion), Lane Baker (bass/background vocals),  Andrew Higley (keyboards/saw), James LeBlanc ( background vocals) & Dylan LeBlanc  (background vocals/lead guitar) on ‘Lie Like You Love Me’.
