Zervas & Pepper – Lifebringer

Zervas & Pepper - Lifebringer

Welsh duo Paul Zervas & Kathryn Pepper are back with another fine album of ‘Cosmic folk rock’. the Cardiff-based singer songwriters follow their successful 2011 debut Somewhere in the City and introduce their new band line-up on their album Lifebringer – the pair are joined by Andrew Brown on bass, Jack Egglestone on drums and Simon Kingman on lead guitar, the album also features additional guests musicians from the Principality including Jon Thomas (Aqualung) on Steel Guitar, Kris Jenkins (Super Furry Animals) on percussion and Lee Goodall on woodwind, the recording was largely laid down at the duo’s home studio with bass and drums recorded at local studio Musicbox in Cardiff.

The sounds of Laurel Canyon permeate deeply an album of original songs that draw inspiration from their travels, Kathryn says about the album “There are times when our music is a reflection of our lives but mostly we like to create an escape from reality. We wrote the bulk of this album whilst staying in LA last year, taking as much inspiration from art, music and characters we ran into as we could” and Paul adds “We’ve been somewhat selfish when it comes to the song writing for this album, certainly when it comes to subject matter, there aren’t many Welsh singer-songwriters writing material about round-eyed cult leaders, dystopian futures or mystic Indian shamans! So while not intentionally we do tend to write music that flies in the face of our everyday surroundings and lives”

The pair share vocals duties alternating lead vocals on the tracks throughout the album and combining in some lovely harmonies driving home the West Coast vibe nicely, albums can often be seasonal and this one is perfectly timed for lazy, late summer evenings with a chilled bottle of SoCals finest grape juice.

The album is released on July 22nd on Zerodeo Records and you can pick up the CD direct from the band, there are a number of dates across the UK through the summer in support of the release to look out for.
