Lay Low – Farewell Good Nights Sleep

A laid back offering of country stained folk from an Icelandic singer-songwriter delivered with a indie-pop vocal, I posted something about Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir a.k.a. Lay Low last year, and the album has now turned up on Reviewshine, maybe linked to the fact she’s working on new material for an album later this year? Whatever the reason it’s definitely worth another mention, Lay Low was born in London to an Icelandic mother and Sri Lankan father, the family relocated to Iceland when she was a toddler and in Iceland she’s topped the charts, had the years best selling original album and won three Icelandic Music Awards.

The album was recorded and produced by Liam Watson, who’s worked with several Beat Surrender favourites including Pete Molinari and Holly Golightly, to seal the deal it features the wonderful pedal steel of B.J. Cole

The Carrivick Sisters - From The Fields

From The Fields is the new album from South Devon duo The Carrivick Sisters, a heady combination of traditional bluegrass instrumentation with a splash of pedal steel and a folk sensibility taking inspiration from the sites and sounds of the south western corner of England all wrapped up and delivered with pure sibling harmonising by twins Laura and Charlotte Carrivick.

At 21 years old The Carrivick Sisters are already experienced live performers having played across the UK, mainland Europe and in Canada, From the Fields is their fourth album following My Own Two Feet (2006), Better Than 6 Cakes (2007) and Jupiter’s Corner (2009), they started performing as a duo in 2006, honing their skills busking and playing live until turning professional in 2007 after leaving school.

Miss Shevaughn & Yuma Wray – Snake Oil Songs

Miss Shevaughn & Yuma Wray work their music across an array of instruments including guitars, lap steel, banjo, mandolin, organ, glockenspiel, kick drum and harmonica, the duo spend most of their time on the road performing to audiences across the US, they’ve put out an EP to showcase their talents, as far as I can tell it’s a download only at the moment through Amazon and  iTunes, well worth taking a listen, they manage to pack a lot into the half dozen tracks with a genre bending selection box of tunes.
