Beat Surrender on Hypem

Beat Surrender by Beat Surrender

Well I couldn’t ignore Beat Surrender could I, the four piece a rock n roll outfit out of Boston MA started out as a tribute band to their favourite music blog ……………..okay maybe not the whole truth, but we both share a love of The Jam’s music which means they’re guaranteed a shout out and besides that their debut EP is more than worthy of a plug anyway.

The band are Stephen Bailey – vocals and guitar, Ian Laczynski – lead guitar and vocals, Dana Cataldo – bass and John “Caffers” McCaffrey – percussion, join them at Facebook

The guys are working on material for a full length release, in the interim you can download their EP from Bandcamp for free, my favourite track the quiet one.

The Loose Salute – Getting Over Being Under

Got to be honest and say what caught my eye before I’d listened to this album was the mention of Mojave 3, who’s album Puzzles Like You is a one I return to time and time again, the connection…………former Mojave 3 drummer Ian McCutcheon breaks out from behind the skins to take a role front of stage and at times you could be listening to Mojave 3 as his vocal styling is similar to Neil Halstead’s, McCutcheon shares vocals duties on the album with Lisa Billson and Charlotte King, completing the line-up are Alan Forrester, Robert Jesse and Alden Evans.

Happy I Don’t Count by The Loose Salute by PMA

McCutcheon brings with him the indie-pop sound of Mojave 3 blended with atmospheric dream-pop and tastefully adorned with strings, pedal steel and brass, warm and gentle it’s like bathing in late evening summer sunshine. Ghosts I've Met - From a Spark

Wonderfully laid back melancholic indie-folk from Ghosts I’ve Met, led by singer-songwriter Sam Watts this is the debut long player from the band centred around Watts, who calls on a revolving cast of talent for support on his recordings – on this album contributions come from Jenna Conrad (Damien Jurardo, Pearly Gate Music), Faustine Hudson (Pearly Gate Music), Bill Patton (J. Tillman, Pearly Gate Music), Anne Marie Ruljancich (Jesse Sykes, The Shins), Seth Warren (Damien Jurardo, Red Stars Theory), Brittain Ashford (Brittain Ashford) and Ben Blankenship (Modest Mouse).

Best enjoyed in the twilight hours, let the reflective songs delivered by Watt’s plaintive vocal wash over you and work their magic, an accomplished and endlessly listenable album.
