Drive-by Truckers – Academy 2 Birmingham Nov 13th 2010

Had a great night in the company of the mighty Drive-by Truckers at Academy 2 in Birmingham.

Some observations whilst I’m still in a coherent state.

The new DBT tunes are fan-fucking-tastic

The old DBT tunes are fan-fucking-tastic too

Shona’s got a damn sexy smile

If they don’t play your favourite tune – it’s not a disappointment

Jay’s keyboards and John steel playing bring a lot to the DBT table

Cooley’s songs sound so much sweeter live

I have reached the age of an average DBT concert goer.

Anyone who has purchased a Coldplay album should be made to go to a Truckers gig for therapy.

It’s no fun having to drive (and not drink) to a DBT gig

DBT concerts should not be over by 10PM

Except when I’m driving so it leaves time for drinking post gig

It’s okay going on your own when you get to see a handful of nice folk there you know but have never met face-to-face

Driving home with Steve McQueen on repeat and up to the max can reduce the journey time by around 50%

Driving home with Steve McQueen on repeat and up to the max can reduce your chances of getting home in one piece by the same factor

  • Well observed. I thought Mr Cooley’s songs were some of the high points of the evening….but then again the only low points in the evening were the bits between the songs.Don’t know what the average age of Truckers cocert attendees is but I guess that I’d be nearer David Hood’s age than young Pattsy. Anyone who does an Eddie Hinton song in their set gets my vote!
Must thank/apologise to the guy on the merchandise stand who tolerated a somewhat drunken Welshman who mistook his accent for being Northern Irish who politeley informed me he was actually from Athens.
Well it was an easy mistake to make in my advanced state of inibriation.
Ithought the selection of songs was as the guy on the stall said….”dead on there fella”. Hmmm…maybe he was an Ulsterman.
    Cheers.

  • Was a great show, nice mix of the old and new. I know it’s an over used superlative but the band were really tight. Hope we get another tour next year in support of the new album – can’t wait.
