The Reverend John DeLore “Ode to an American Urn”

Sometimes I get to things a little late, this one got misfiled and the rediscovered during an email purge which is just as well because I (and you?) would have missed a treat. Ode to an American Urn is the début independently released and promoted album – from the “The Reverend” and his band and one that sets the standard high for future recordings, I have it on good authority a follow-up album is in the pipeline – I’ll try to get to the next one sooner, this thirteen track release features a dozen originals and a classy cover of Cohen’s Iodine.

Packed with tracks that get into your head and pull you in, hook, line and sinker, the album proved a perfect set of tunes to stave of the boredom of a recent cross-country journey (and comes highly recommended for the morning commute too), highlights for me the sunshine laden sweetness of Everybody Loves You Just the Same, the duet with another Beat Surrender favourite Kara Suzanne on Wounded Knee ,the sprawling seven minute Take a Ride and the contemplative Slow Down, an accomplished work that leaves a lasting impression and is endlessly listenable.

Buy the CD direct here or download @ Bandcamp.
