Exebelle and The Rusted Cavalcade – EP’s

I was listening to the Exebelle and The Rusted Calvalcade EP’s whilst catching up on some surfing, I was reading this post / article and smiling to myself at the irony, here I am trying stick label’s on something that could fit a dozen genre’s and sub-genres, so let’s just call it americana and let other’s worry about the semantics.

The band from Richmond VA are Philip Heesen, III: (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, lead & harmony vocals), Kerry Hutcherson: (pedal steel guitar, mandolin, acoustic guitar, harmonica, lead & harmony vocals) and Ryan Owenby: (bass, lead & harmony vocals), they all contribute lead-vocal performances and this fits with the smörgåsbord nature of the tracks which draw on numerous traditional and contempory roots influences to create two interesting EP’s that bode well for the future.

The first EP entitled “The Antipoison Creek Sessions” comprises four tracks and you pick it up for a bargain $2.99 at SoundClick, where you listen to all of the tracks, the second EP is “C.A.F.” which set you back a dollar more for five tracks.  There is another EP in the pipeline for 2009 which I’ll be keeping an eye out for, I’m not sure of the merits of 3 EP’s against a full-length recording but can’t argue with quality of songs.
My favourites “What If We Fell” and “St. Paul Coal Blues”.
